Welcome to the Flame On Journal

A gas engineer's toolbag and paperwork laid out ahead of a job

We’re starting a journal for the kind of thing that doesn’t fit on a pricing page: what actually goes wrong with boilers across South London, how we think through a repair before we touch a spanner, and what the Gas Safety Certificate (CP12) process really involves for landlords who’ve never sat through one.

What you’ll find here

Most heating advice online is written by people who’ve never opened a boiler casing. We’d rather write less, and only publish what we’d tell a customer standing in their own kitchen — plain explanations of fault codes, servicing intervals, and the borough-by-borough quirks we see in older housing stock.

Why it matters

A boiler that’s serviced on schedule and diagnosed correctly the first time costs less over its lifetime than one that’s patched reactively. That’s the position everything we write here starts from.
